In this paper, we provide a a complete overview of the MMC-based experimental prototype at UNSW Sydney (The University of New South Wales) including the structure of the sub-modules, communication, control and protection functions as well as the possible configurations of the system. The prototype, rated at a dc voltage of up to 800 V and power of 20 kVA and can be used to study the operation of a single converter, back-to-back and point-to-point connections as well as multi-terminal systems.6enginfo:eu-repo/semantics/restrictedAccessFlexible prototype of modular multilevel converters for experimental verification of DC transmission and multiterminal systemsconference output10.1109/ACEPT.2017.8168595hardware prototypelaboratory prototypeModular multilevel convertermultilevel convertersTransportationEnergy Engineering and Power TechnologyAutomotive Engineeringhttp://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?scp=85045925719&partnerID=8YFLogxK
