Product knowledge is created all along the product life cycle in the design phase, in the production phase, in the maintenance/support phase and in the end-of-life phase. It may be generated by any company or individual involved along the product life cycle. Currently, within the extended enterprise, this product knowledge is not managed optimally. Areas where problems frequently arise relate to the capturing and representation of product knowledge. Also, there are cultural barriers to knowledge sharing inside and outside the companies. The need to manage ever-increasing amounts of information also poses increasing demands on an effective management by the actors of knowledge throughout product life cycle. With the above scenario as the starting point, this paper describes a project, which focuses on the particular challenges faced by industrial organisations. The emphasis is on enhancing the acquisition and management of product knowledge in the extended enterprise for to complex products.enginfo:eu-repo/semantics/restrictedAccessAdvanced product knowledge support for the extended enterpriseconference output10.1109/ITMC.2005.7461262Extended EnterpriseProduct Knowledge ManagementProduct Life Cycle SupportManagement of Technology and Innovationhttp://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?scp=84971353984&partnerID=8YFLogxK
