For this reason, transmission and distribution system operators need to coordinate their operation in order to develop efficient market arrangements that can help utilize all the resources capable of providing ancillary services. SmartNet project investigated the potential interaction schemes between network operators, together with the possible new services devoted to the optimal distribution grid management. This paper summarizes the main challenges in simulating complex electricity systems and flexibility markets for three European countries (Italy, Denmark and Spain) in 2030 scenarios. The simulation results are then analyzed using cost-benefit analysis and regulatory conclusions are deduced.1927570enginfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessTSO-DSO coordination to acquire services from distribution grids: Simulations, cost-benefit analysis and regulatory conclusions from the SmartNet project: Simulations, cost-benefit analysis and regulatory conclusions from the SmartNet projectjournal article10.1016/j.epsr.2020.106700Aggregation of distribution resourcesAncillary services marketNetwork simulationNetwork operators coordination schemesAggregation of distribution resourcesAncillary services marketNetwork simulationNetwork operators coordination schemesEnergy Engineering and Power TechnologyElectrical and Electronic EngineeringProject IDinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/EC/H2020/691405/EU/Smart TSO-DSO interaction schemes, market architectures and ICT Solutions for the integration of ancillary services from demand side management and distributed generation/SmartNetinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/EC/H2020/691405/EU/Smart TSO-DSO interaction schemes, market architectures and ICT Solutions for the integration of ancillary services from demand side management and distributed generation/SmartNetFunding InfoEuropean Commission's H2020 under grant agreement No 691405.European Commission's H2020 under grant agreement No 691405.http://www.scopus.com/inward/record.url?scp=85089071307&partnerID=8YFLogxK
