RT Conference Proceedings T1 Beyond smart meters: Management of the LV network A1 Garcia Prado, J. A1 Gonzalez, A. A1 Arzuaga, A. A1 Martínez, C. A1 Marron, L. A1 Pintado, M. A1 Riaño, S. AB AMI deployments are changing the perception of LV distribution grid. Until now, the main challenge for the LV grid was the lack of visibility and this can be overcome thanks to Smart Meters scattered over the network. This means that distribution companies are now able to go one step beyond towards an advanced real time representation, visibility, controllability, operation, and management of the LV network. This paper will show how existing smart metering deployments can be extended towards the LV grid full knowledge and Remote Control. The aim is to be able to understand and correlate this smart metering data anticipating the LV grid status. Smart Meters events and measurements are sent in real time to AMI systems but no further management of this new "LV grid big data" information is being done at the moment for grid operation purposes. The authors of the paper are undertaking this project, which implements a LV network management system based on a DMS/SCADA system, that will incorporate the LV network model and the land base cartography. The system will receive the information coming from the meters, as mentioned above. Voltage and power flows, historical and near-real time, will be utilised by the system to manage outages and planned interventions in the network, assuring a continuous updated status. These actions are being developed within BIDELEK Bask-Government supported initiative and the UPGRID H2020 European project, based on a real field deployment in the metropolitan Bilbao area. Improvements will be evaluated inside a real user environment. This will allow evaluating the impact on the global quality of the grid, together with the most suitable operation strategies, which will have implications and leading to a revision of current company operational practices in Distribution.
