The Sustainable rehabilitation of the existing building stock through an urban and integrated approach is frequently the most sustainable and cost-effective of the strategies. In order to achieve the maximum sustainability potential of the districts these strategies should address all scales, include all domains and involve all stakeholders in the decision making processes. The EFFESUS and FASUDIR projects, partially funded by the 7th FP and both coordinated by Tecnalia, aim to research and develop the knowledge, strategies and tools to meet the challenges of the sustainable rehabilitation from a multiscale perspective. The methodologies and the consequent tools that are being developed in these projects will focus on the initial stage of the rehabilitation process at district level, in which the rehabilitation framework is established, the strategies are defined and the technological solutions are selected. Therefore the objective is to give to the stakeholder the tools for an informed decision regarding energy strategies at urban level.en
