Item Bioinspired Design for Lightweighting and Vibration Behavior Optimization in Large-Scale Aeronautical Tooling: A Comparative Study(2023-12) Laraudogoitia Blanc, Ignacio; Hamm, Christian; García de Cortázar, Maider; Kaiser, Nils; Savysko, Oleksander; Girot Mata, Franck Andrés; CIRMETALA comparative study is presented, focusing on three different bioinspired design methodologies applied to a large-scale aeronautical tooling use case. The study aims to optimize the structure in terms of the first vibration mode, minimizing mass, and supporting operational loads. The development of lightweight metallic components is of great importance for industries such as aerospace, automotive, and energy harvesting, where weight reduction can lead to significant improvements in performance, efficiency, and sustainability. Bioinspired design offers a promising approach to achieving these goals. The study begins with an introduction to natural selection and various bioinspired concepts. It proceeds with a thorough review of the selected bioinspired design methodologies and tools, which are then applied to the chosen use case. The outcomes for each methodology were explored with respect to the design requirements. Subsequently, the most suitable design was selected according to the success criteria defined and its validation is explained. The manufacturing of this design was carried out using an advanced and novel approach specifically tailored to accommodate the large dimensions and complexity of the structure. Finally, modal testing was performed to validate the entire process, and the results obtained demonstrate the potential effectiveness of bioinspired design methodologies in achieving lightweighting and optimizing vibration modes for large-scale aeronautical tooling.Item Optimization in performance-based logistics contracts(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017-08-01) Lopes, Julio C.O.; Scarpel, Rodrigo; Abrahao, Fernando T.M.; Galar, Diego; Ciani, Lorenzo; Tecnalia Research & InnovationPerformance-based Logistics (PBL) contracts require metrics and methodologies set in a systemic way to provide readiness for the warfighter at reasonable costs. There must be a clever and verifiable connection of metrics in order to access and analyze data and to deliver sound and consistent inputs for the entire support system to accomplish its goals. A system of incentives and penalties usually takes place and suggests functions to be maximized and/or minimized in a multi-criterion and highly integrated environment. This study deals with the optimization of the entire setup of Performance-Based Logistics contracts and is limited to a preliminary study in a simple scenario that has showed a promises results. A mixed method, using both the £-Constraint and Goal Programming is proposed to model the case. Results indicate that metrics used for reliability, maintainability, availability and supportability (RAMS) and costs can be optimized simultaneously for clever contracts.Item Toolbox for aggregator of flexible demand(2012) Koponen, Pekka; Ikaheimo, Jussi; Vicino, Antonio; Agnetis, Alessandro; De Pascale, Gianluca; Ruiz Carames, Nerea; Jimeno, Joseba; Sanchez-Ubeda, Eugenio F.; Garcia-Gonzalez, Pablo; Cossent, Rafael; POWER SYSTEMSFlexibility of distributed energy resources is increasingly needed in the electricity markets and grids. But this dispersed flexibility can be used efficiently only if it is aggregated to wholesale market products. A set of software tools was developed for an actor or a company who aggregates flexible household demand for the electricity market and network operators. The tools comprise 1) short term forecasting of electricity market prices, 2) forecasting loads and their responses to control signals, 3) optimal selection of the control signals and consequently also the responses in each situation, 4) relevant external interfaces, and 5) a database and coordinating logic that integrate the tools into toolbox software. In addition to the operational time horizon tools also tools were considered for longer term decision making such as support for development of a portfolio of retail and wholesale market contracts in order to manage risks and maximize the value of flexibility.
