Item Am IE towards ambient intelligence for the ageing citizens(2009) Kantorovitch, Julia; Kaartinen, Jouni; Abril, Luis Collantes; De las Heras Martín, Ricardo; Cantera, José Alberto Martínez; Criel, Johan; Gielen, Marcel; Medical TechnologiesThis research presents a system, currently under development, which aims at providing an intelligent ambient able to improve the quality of life and delivering customized support to elderly people in need of assistance, according to their own specific situation, and in a non-intrusive and respectful way.Item DECKUBIK: An unique open building experimental facility aimed to test ict based Ambient Assisted Living products(Association for Computing Machinery, 2014-09-10) Arakistain, Ivan; Albizu, Josu; Castelruiz, Amaia; DIGITALIZACIÓN Y AUTOMATIZACIÓN DE LA CONSTRUCCIÓN; Tecnalia Research & InnovationDECKUBIK is a unique facility for R&D aimed at developing new concepts, products and services for the aging market. This new facility has been installed on the ground floor of the experimental building KUBIK, located in Derio, Vizcaya (Spain). DECKUBIK simulates a dwelling, with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. The spaces are equipped with the necessary infrastructure and are prepared to place new products, interfaces, sensor systems, services and technologies that need to be tested and validated by Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) users. This paper will focus in two of the technologies that we brought into practice which can enhance user experience at AAL infrastructure. Interactive furniture with capacitance based sensing which can provide new non-intrusive functionalities, and self-powered control systems.Item Improving patient motivation in game development for motor deficit rehabilitation(2008) Flores, Eletha; Tobon, Gabriel; Cavallaro, Ettore; Cavallaro, Francesca I.; Perry, Joel C.; Keller, Thierry; Centros PRE-FUSION TECNALIA - (FORMER); Tecnalia Research & InnovationIt has been stated repeatedly that active participation in rehabilitation programs increases the benefit and effectiveness of therapy. In developing robotic devices for stroke rehabilitation, the existing use of boring task interfaces produces a significant reduction in elderly patient motivation. To combine robot-aided therapy with appealing games, then, is not only a matter of creating entertainment, but a real necessity for motor recovery. Besides emphasizing a lack of attention to elderly patients in conceiving games for post-stroke rehabilitation, this paper launches a challenge to two fields with tremendous collaborative potential. As a precursor to this collaboration, the following research consolidates the gaming scenario criteria for both rehabilitation and elderly entertainment. Conclusions are then formed from the adaptability of existing games to identify the direction of future game development.Item Technological assistance tool development for elderly's autonomy enhancing: Adimen(2007) Florentino, Karmele; Azkoitia, Jose Miguel; Rodríguez-De-Pablo, Cristina; González, Mari Feli; Buiza, Cristina; Etxeberria, Igone; Eizmendi, Gorka; Azkoitia, Jose Miguel; Craddock, Gerald; GENERAL; Tecnalia Research & InnovationThis article shows the work carried out to develop a personal assistance tool based on the use of a PDA (personal digital assistant) to support elderly people on activities of daily living (ADL) that require to have cognitive capabilities like memory, attention or orientation; and by hence to promote their autonomy and independency level. Specific software application modules to be used in a portable device have been developed. The users will have a remote assistant call centre that will provide them several services depending on what they are subscribed to. The personal assistant devices will be programmed, adapted, and updated to the user preferences and needs. In this way, users will have a simple portable device to use, with a friendly and easy to use interface and adapted to their personal traits not only in the services it offers but also in the way they are offered.
