Item Caracterización de sales de aluminio para su utilización en el tratamiento de aguas potables y residuales(2006-04) Prieto, Soraya; Belaustegi, Yolanda; Valle, Beatriz; Gómez, Nicomedes; GENERAL; VALORIZACIÓN DE RESIDUOS; Tecnalia Research & InnovationCoagulation process is widely used in potable and wastewater treatment. The most used coagulants in water purification are iron and aluminium salts. At the moment, products based on prehydrolized forms of aluminium can be more effective than traditional coagulants are being used, but their mechanism of coagulation is very complicated and it is not much studied. The objective of this work is determine the aluminium species formed in aqueous solutions to know what species are formed and which are the ones that act as coagulants. For this proposal, the following techniques have been used: UV-Vis Spectroscopy, 27A1-NMR Spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy and Size Exclusion Chromatography, as well as jartest assays. By analyzing the obtained data the properties of coagulants with their way of operation are correlated.Item Oxidation of volatile organic compounds over catalytic membranes(2005) Villaran, Ma Carmen; Gómez, Olga; Valle, Beatriz; Zurbano, Gemma; Gaballah, I.; Mishra, B.; Solozabal, R.; Tanaka, M.; Alimentación Sostenible; Tecnalia Research & InnovationA catalytic membrane has been developed to be used in the oxidation of a solution containing VOCs. The membrane is prepared by deposition of platinum on a porous γ-alumina layer. This layer is formed by the application of a bohemite solution on a commercial membrane. The characterisation of the membrane support has been studied by X-ray, IR and TGA methods. The metal deposition is carried out by wet impregnation. The characterisation of the amount of platinum in the membrane is performed by UV and ICP techniques, and the distribution of the metal over the support is studied by N 2 adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), XPS and TPR. Also, a fluidodynamic study of the permeation fluxes of gases and liquids is presented. The catalytic properties of the membrane have been tested in a catalytic membrane reactor where an aqueous VOCs solution has been oxidised. The results obtained have been compared with a conventional catalyst.Item Removal of cooper (II) ions from aqueous solution by the use of biopolymers(2005) Villarán, M. Carmen; Valle, Beatriz; Bilbao, Ainhoa; Lorenzo, Leire; De Apodaca, Elena Díaz; Gugliotta, Vito; Gaballah, I.; Mishra, B.; Solozabal, R.; Tanaka, M.; Alimentación Sostenible; Tecnalia Research & InnovationChelation with bio-polymers is recognized as an emerging technique for the treatmente os wastewater containing heavy metals. In a first step of this study, the chelatmg kinetics of bio-polymers as alginic acid, calcium alginate, carrageenan and chitosan in relation with the Cu(II) at different pH and metal concentration, has been investigated. The chitosan was crosslinked with different chemicals and at different concentrations, to improve its stability at several pH. The used technologies for the regeneration of each polymer were ionic exchange and electrodeposition. Only with a combination of both technologies has been possible to obtain values of regeneration up to 95%.
