Item Analysis of the applicability of the IEEE 2030.8 standard for testing a microgrid control system(CIGRE, 2021) Jimeno, Joseba; Merino, Julia; Perez-Basante, Angel; Gil-de-Muro, AsierTo coordinate the operation of the different generating units, storage systems and loads belonging to a microgrid, typically a Microgrid Control System (MGCS) is needed. This MGCS defines the set points to be delivered to the controllable devices to guarantee the appropriate operation of the microgrid both from the technical and the economic perspectives. The MGCS must be able to operate the microgrid in islanded mode, grid-connected, and withstand the transitions between the two operatingmodes. Recently two international standards have been approved dealing with microgrid con-trollers, “IEEE 2030.7-2017 – IEEE Standard for the Specification of Microgrid Control-ler” and “IEEE 2030.8-2018 - IEEE Standard for the Testing of Microgrid Controllers”.Item Impact of proportional resonant controller parameters of VSC connected to AC grids with variable X/R characteristic on the small signal stability(2020-06) Haro-Larrode, Marta; Santos-Mugica, Maider; Eguia, Pablo; Rodriguez-Sanchez, Raul; Gil-de-Muro, Asier; Tecnalia Research & Innovation; POWER SYSTEMS; POWER ELECTRONICS AND SYSTEM EQUIPMENTThe purpose of this paper is to assess the impact of proportional resonant controller (PR) parameters of a Voltage Source Converter (VSC) and AC grid topology on the small signal stability of a VSC-AC system. Based on this, a small signal model is constructed, step by step, and validated against EMT simulations. Following this validation, several scenarios containing different PR controller gains are proposed and compared by means of trajectory of eigenvalues. A discussion of the best adequacy of PR controller parameters and AC grid strength in combination with inductive-resistive characteristic (X/R) is developed to ensure the stability of the system. The previous eigenvalue analysis is verified in time domain by means of EMT simulations. The analysis performed concludes that, while the AC grid strength in combination with PR controller parameters plays an important role in determination of stability, variations in the inductive-resistive AC grid characteristic need to be included in the analysis, since further instabilities can appear even when the PR controller is well designed for a specific AC grid configuration.Item PowerDynamics.jl—An experimentally validated open-source package for the dynamical analysis of power grids(2022-01) Plietzsch, Anton; Kogler, Raphael; Auer, Sabine; Merino, Julia; Gil-de-Muro, Asier; Liße, Jan; Vogel, Christina; Hellmann, Frank; Tecnalia Research & Innovation; POWER ELECTRONICS AND SYSTEM EQUIPMENTPowerDynamics.jl is a Julia package for time-domain modeling of power grids that is specifically designed for the stability analysis of systems with high shares of renewable energies. It makes use of Julia’s state-of-the-art differential equation solvers and is highly performant even for systems with a large number of components. Further, it is compatible with Julia’s machine learning libraries and allows for the utilization of these methods for dynamical optimization and parameter fitting. The package comes with a number of predefined models for synchronous machines, transmission lines and inverter systems. However, the strict open-source approach and a macro-based user-interface also allows for an easy implementation of custom-built models which makes it especially interesting for the design and testing of new control strategies for distributed generation units. This paper presents how the modeling concept, implemented component models and fault scenarios have been experimentally tested against measurements in the microgrid lab of TECNALIA.
